they grow up so fast...

Yeah, I know...I promised you all a giveaway next, but when I looked outside this morning some things came together...a heartwarming moment...

...followed by the realization that I could potentially embarrass a loved one. So here's another post.

I can relate a little bit to Mama Bird...our nest will soon be roomier, too.
Seems like yesterday Nick looked like this...

...cute and sweet and with a nicely limited vocabulary.

Fast forward to Monday, his 20th birthday...

All tired out from a tough day behind the checkstand. He'll be moving out this summer to be with his girlfriend who is transferring to a UC further up the state. I'm very excited for them--it's sure to be a wonderful adventure.

I'll be left with one son still at home--wondering how it happened that I now have two sons in their 20s.

And contemplating what color I'll be painting Nick's room! Pink, perhaps? That would be a new experience!

Congratulations Elizabeth! You've done yourself proud :) I know exactly how you feel. My baby girl turned 22 today. She'll be flying the nest in September into her new home with her new hubby. Where have the last 20 years gone?
(To the quilts, I suppose ...)

Happy (belated) bday to your son! Isn't it amazing how quickly it happens? My "baby" is 27, I don't know how he did that! I wanted to tell you it was a pleasure to meet you in person at Quilt Market, albeit brief. As I told Pam, when I first saw both of you as I was leaving Sample Spree (looking like a crazy bag lady, I'm sure), you both must have wanted to run for the hills-I know I would have! When I got to my car and realized what I did, I was so embarrassed, and yet, the next day you were both kind enough to let me get a photo. I always thought, when I saw people on TV accost a celebrity, that it was so tacky - something I'd never do! and there I was! Oi vey! I love your work and have made a couple of the many patterns of yours that I own. I'm currently making Irish Rose with Robyn Pandolph's Sumptuous Living - the pattern and fabric were made for each other! As a matter of fact, I'll be ordering another of those patterns to give as a gift to a bee friend. Thanks for being so nice - and patient! Suz

You are so not old enough to have two sons in their 20s! You must have started very, very young. Congratulations on raising such a fine young man ~ and on looking so good after having done so! :) (Can I just say how much I love his red hair?)

And the picture of the birds is beautiful... also love the quilt in the picture behind Nick... and pink will be perfect!

Dear Elizabeth, What a handsome son! My daughter Carmen turns 20 on June 17th...where did the time go? And how did we run around in those mini vans and get so many meals on the table? I couldn't do it now...but very glad I had the chance :) xo Pam in Chico
