Time to start catching up...
Yes, the day did finally arrive and Eldest Son Eric (the car guy) moved westward to his new digs. "Digs" would in fact be the appropriate word to use since the kid is living practically underground, but when you're first starting out you can't be too picky.
Here's Middle son Nick helping to load the truck with what used to be our kitchen chairs.
I followed along in my car since bouncing around in the 2 seater uhaul didn't hold much appeal.
Here's the first conversation after we arrived:
Nick: Where's Eric's bedroom?
Me: You're standing in it.
Nick: Uh...then where's his living room?
Me: You're standing in it.
But...here's the gourmet kitchen!
And the awe-inspiring view...
The first neighbor he met seems friendly...
But the important thing is that he loves his new home! He's been trying to cook actual meals and has already learned how to clog his sink.
Turbo Pig moved in the following day and supposedly is doing fine. But I know he misses his Grammie.
Meanwhile, back at home...time to get my STUDIO set up!!
Wait. I'm just not sure I can give you a "before" shot of the room...it's SO BAD. A room I've avoided stepping into for a loooong time...this isn't what blogs are supposed to show...we're all friends here, right?? Ok, deep breath...this is what I was left with.
But I arrived armed with a shop vac, paint chips, and a burning desire to have a space of my own...so more on that to come!

Just love it! You are much bolder than I taking a picture of your "new" studio!
I faced the same when my daughter married and moved out, can't wait to see the wonders you work with it.

*L* I don't care how sexist this sounds. I don't see a female leaving you with a room like that.
But you have no where to go but UP.
It'll be fun to see what you come up with.
I've seen it and its freaking amazing!
You are now at where I will be next year when my one and only son leaves the nest--getting my (finally) own craft room is the only bright spot I can see!
Congratulations on your up and coming studio! That mess that was left ---- looks like something my own son would leave me with in the future when he goes off on his own too! (I've got 8 plus years for that though!) I can see my oldest (15 years)doing that to me too - she is the messiest girl I've ever seen. If you don't tell her to clean, pick up, vacuum, do her laundry etc. - she won't and it'll just pile up and she could care less! Anyhow - I'm babbling now - congrat's and good luck!
OMG does that room ever bring back memories. When Boo moved out, you would not believe that mess. Your son's room is clean!! How do they do it?? Happy decorating!!
You are going to have a wonderful time decorating your studio, can't wait to see what you do with it! What a great way to start a new year...with a new space to call your own!
OMG Been there done that last year!! YUP! I feel for you! My son's picture is on my blog, I should have put a picture of his room..You will be so happy once it is done! You will be singing, dancing, sewing, and laughing all at once!
Oh gosh. . .! You're going to feel good every step of the way of making the room yours! I can't wait to see the outcome!. . . (& I bet you are sooo ready for it!)
Happy new year E!
xo, Bren
You are going to have so much fun with that room! Can't wait to see the step by step transformation!
Hi Elizabeth! Wow! How exciting is that! Can't wait to see the end result! Those pictures look very familiar! Looks like when my oldest son moved out! I still have some of his stuff stored, that he didn't take with him. He's getting ready to move again, to the city and further away. I'm a little sad about that, but excited for him. Hope you have a wonderful New Year's eve, stay safe!
Talk to you soon, love ya!
"After" photos are only really spectacular when you have wonderful "Before" pictures like this! Have fun and can't wait to see the progress Elizabeth... ;)
Happy New Year!
You go girl !!!! YAHOO !! a room of your own!!! (just put on a HAZMAT suit to clean up the aftermath that your kid so sweetly left you and you'll be fine! -- I have 2 teenage sons currently turning their rooms into toxic waist dumps --- I shudder to think how bad those rooms will be when they finally are old enough to move out!!!! )
That looks exactly like a room lived in by a teenage boy to me, lol. Congratulations on your new "space for me". Looking forward to its transformation.
You are too funny! I love the before picture. It looks very familar to me! I too had kids that moved out. With your talent that room will have a wonderful transformation. Then you have to show the before and after side by side! Have fun decorating! Happy New Year to you and your family!
Happy New Year to you Elizabeth!!
Congrats on the first boy growing up and moving on. And it's good that you showed us the before ;cause now we'll be oh-so-excited to see the after!
Happy New Year to you Elizabeth, and thanks for all the inspiration you provide.
Hi, I'm new here but that room looks quite familiar; doesn't resemble my son's room but it certainly reminds me of my daughter's (17 year old) room.
Love your blog, just found your patterns (where have I been?) My quilting "to do" list just grew!
You're hysterical! And I don't mind saying that you're scaring me a bit -- my first one flies the coop in May and considering the sad state of his room now, I'm dreading the after effects! How fun for you though to be planning a space for you -- can't wait to see it -- I know it will be beautiful!
Happy Birthday Elizabeth!!!
(a little "Kitty" told me!)
Hope you have a wonderful day!
xo, Bren
Happy Belated Birthday Elizabeth! I hope you are still crocheting?
Love,
Tamara
Hope that you have a Happy Birthday!! Happy New Year. Don't be to quick to clean it up, he may be back!!!!!!!!!
Happy Birthday Elizabeth. I wish you a very pleasant nice day full of surprises.
I recieved my much anticipated pattern(s) and fabric (thank you for the gift!!!) and now I'm parusing my collection for background prints in lights (I found some darling pale snow flake fabric that will be perfect to combine with others in my stash). I even dreamed about making this quilt the other night. I'm really excited.
Again, best wishes for a great day.
