A goodbye

As anyone who has ever shared their life with a pet knows, there comes a time when a hard decision has to be made. Yesterday was one of those days at our house.

Willard had been a big part of our family for more than 12 years...he was almost a year old when we got him--he'd started life as a show dog, but his handler was moving so he needed a home. And we were so lucky that he moved in with us and became Willard Scott.

Willard spent most of his time with me--and made it abundantly clear that he was MY DOG. Nevertheless, he loved all of his people...

And until darn close to the end was a master at trash-stealing...here he is enjoying every molecule of ice cream left in an already rinsed out container.

We know this had to be done...Willard knew it too, and was ready.

Still, it's gonna be a sniffly and teary weekend around here.

We had fun!

Pam finished next month's darling project and I'm sure she'll be posting about it soon.

Sneak Peek

This is a different sort of sneak peek...these fabrics aren't for a quilt, they're for the special project for Pam's and my first class at Thimble Creek this Friday!

We're having so much fun rounding up fabrics, vintage images, and trims for the kits that each participant will receive.

Rumor has it that there will be something sweet to eat as well.

There's still time to call Thimble Creek and sign up--I'd love to make a kit for you, too!

More Lecien Love

This week I have had so much fun with some new fabric...it's called Atelier Akiko by Lecien and it will debut at Fall Quilt Market. The theme print is the cutest panel ever and you can see a bit of it here...I've cut them to finish at 5", so they're a nice size.

Some of the coordinates for the line are the green, pink and aqua with white dots...these dots are a smidge heavier than regular quilting cotton. They're more of a sateen and have a lovely sheen. My favorite coordinate is the bigger dot--it has little sketchy bows scattered here and there.

I also used some of the current Lecien prints (the small florals) and some of their Quilter's Basic pieces.

These colors just make me happy!

I think Presley feels the same way.

Happy and sad

Happy:
Making progress on new quilts

Happy:
Finding a chandelier for my soon-to-be-updated laundry room...on sale at Lowe's for under 18 bucks (yes, I may be painting it).

Sad:
Having to have youngest son's car towed after the engine threw a rod (while Mom was driving it).

Even sadder:
This happened exactly 123 miles after we dropped $1500 on other repairs.

Happy:
Having friends in my studio. (If you've ever seen a mature male guinea pig, you'll thank me for cropping the photo where I did...)

Have a great week, everybody!
